Zohran Mamdani Promises a 'New Era' for New York City in Inaugural Speech
During an inauguration day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani committed to “reinvent” New York City, declaring “a fresh chapter” and an bold commencement to his term.
An Unprecedented Mayor
The 34-year-old political star, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, has become the city's first mayor born in Africa. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Qur'an.

Outgoing Mayor Eric Adams highlighted his team's anti-crime efforts, pointing to historically low numbers of murders and shootings in 2025, with murders reported.
