With an announcement that mixes financial support with a firm ultimatum, the United States has committed $2 billion to support United Nations humanitarian programmes. However, this funding came with a blunt warning for the global organization: it must "evolve or perish."

A Major Pledge During Broader Budget Reductions

The funding announcement came against a backdrop of significant reductions in US support of global aid. Further cuts are expected from other major contributors such as European nations. The US representative, President Trump's Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, made the statement together with the United Nations' emergency relief chief.
