The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans issued by the US against five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans targeted figures that were at the heart of campaigns to enact laws governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
Broad Criticism From EU Nations

The bans were imposed this week on an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as several anti-disinformation campaigners, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
